Earth Has An Eighth, Hidden Continent! Scientists Discovered ‘Zealandia’ (VIDEO)
Scientists discovered that New Caledonia and New Zealand are separate from Australia and belong to a new continent with an area of 4.6 million km2.
In a study published by the American Geological Society, scientists claim that 94% of this continent is under water as a result of weakened panels caused by the separation the continents. As scientists claim, this finding is not just one name on a list, because Zealandia, as it’s called, may offer a range of data concerning the origin of continents. Previously it was thought that they were just a series of sunken islands.
If Asia and Europe are counted as separate continents, than this is the 8th continent on our planet. Zealandia has a core thickness of 12 to 30 km and it is roughly the size of India.
